Colin joins a new legal family at Oxley & Coward
Rotherham's longest established solicitors Oxley and Coward have appointed a new member of staff to further strengthen the highly effective Family Law Department team within the firm.
The new Solicitor is Colin Musgrave, who will join his new colleagues in the Family Department at Oxley and Coward on the 1 March 2010. Formerly retained by Elliot Mather LLP in Chesterfield, Colin completed his training prior to qualifying as a solicitor with Ratcliffe Duce and Gammer in Berkshire, where he dealt with many high asset divorce cases in his career.
A native of Scotland, Colin initially studied Law in Glasgow, before converting to English Law in 2003. After obtaining his Common Professional Examination qualification in English Law from Sussex University, he completed the Legal Practice Course at Northumbria University in Newcastle, prior to moving south.
"I was attracted to Oxley and Coward because of the reputation of the firm in the area," Explained Colin. "Family Law has always been my speciality and Oxley and Coward's expertise in this area of the law made them the ideal firm to join."
The family team is headed up by Partner Sarah Scott and the firm undertakes a wide variety of legal work in family law and currently boasts the largest family department in Rotherham. Colin's appointment is recognition of the firm's determination not only to further assist its existing clients, but to continue delivering the highest standards of service to new clients too.
"A large proportion of my caseload has come about via recommendations from satisfied clients," Said Colin. "The breakdown of a relationship is often the most distressing period in anyone's life, so in this area of the law it is necessary not just to be knowledgeable and professional, but to have a sympathetic ‘bedside manner'. You are often meeting clients at what is usually a time of great emotional, financial and personal upheaval in their lives."
"Colin's appointment is a real coup for the firm," said Oxley and Coward practice manager Peter Hedley. " Our Family Department is one of our busiest, so it is essential we have the very best solicitors we can attract. While all cases are important, Family Law is such an emotive area that professionalism and experience coupled with an understanding approach is vital. We all welcome Colin warmly to Oxley and Coward and wish him well in his new role."
Colin's years of experience have seen him involved in every aspect of Family Law, from pre-nuptial agreements, to supporting clients through divorce and the dissolution of civil partnerships. Colin can advise on everything from financial disputes, to guidance on property ownership through to the more sensitive areas like contact disputes.
"It can appear that family law centres on the negative aspects of a breakdown, but it doesn't have to be this way" continued Colin. "As a member of Resolution, my colleagues and I are committed to the highest standards of practice and in many cases, family mediation can be arranged, where the breakdown of a relationship can be managed in a civilised manner that takes the interests of both parties into account."
As well as being a busy solicitor, Colin still finds time to travel back to his native Scotland regularly, but closer to home Colin takes a keen interest in history and is a regular local theatregoer.
